Since 2018 the Department for Transport-funded Future Transport Zones (FTZs) in W. Midlands, West of England, Solent, and Derby/ Nottingham have been experimenting with technology to implement Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS). The Future Transport Forum 2025 in Southampton on 22-23 January 2025 is bringing together all of the FTZ teams to share lessons learned and TransportAPI is proud to be supporting the event as an exhibitor.

The DfT recently published a review of the FTZ programme highlighting the lessons learned, finding that ‘Data Infrastructure’ is a key challenge. Examples of the challenges included:

  • ‘There was a need to ‘develop or build journey planning functionality’,
  • ‘Access to the static fare and ticketing data was not available’,
  • ‘The ability to make use of data across different transport modes’

TransportAPI is the largest UK aggregator of public transport data at API delivering a billion transport data requests per month to customers such as First Group, Heathrow, Northern Trains and S.Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. We are a pre-existing resource for FTZs with national coverage, access to all public transport modes, standardised scalable access through API and including journey planning. We can help with these challenges, for example by delivering access to bus performance and rail performance data from our transport movement archives.

If you are attending the Future Transport Forum 2025 come and see us on the stand, or get in touch with us to share your requirements for data.
